Newsbrief - Schools

HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Henry Hudson Regional School Parent Teacher Organization recently raised $1,374.72 in product donations for local food pantries.

The group, along with members of the National Honor Society, did so through direct donations from 67 local parish families who chose to “Partner for Food Pantries” and lend a “Holiday Helping Hand”.

Students, Arvinder Singh, AJ Henneberger, Advisor Dorothy Conn, Julie Barradale, Michael Lucas, along with PTO Secretary Patty Giebler complete their drive delivery to the Area Association of Community Churches (AACC) food pantry by presenting Manager, Mary Carhart and Pantry Volunteer Howie Nielsen with the monetary donation after freezers were stocked with special products.  The food pantry is located within the United Methodist Church in Atlantic Highlands.

The PTO asked parishioners from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Highlands, and St. Agnes and The United Methodist Church in Atlantic Highlands for monetary donations in order to purchase preselected food items via a grocery distributor known as Market Day.

The products were then donated to the food panties at both Our Lady of Perpetual Help and The United Methodist Churches.

In light of current financial stresses, the PTO was able to tap many to donate a little and ultimately help nearby families who may be struggling in today’s current economic climate.

As part of the fundraiser, both pantries received: four cases each of individual fruit cups, pancakes, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, green beans, fried rice, and pizzas, five boxes each of string cheese and twice-baked potatoes, seven boxes of broccoli, and 27 pies.

Finally, as part of the Market Day program, profits, in the amount of $137, were donated as well to each pantry.

The PTO is an organization made up of parents and teachers at HHRS that come together to raise funds for school projects, graduate scholarships, and community activities.
