The Measure Is Intended to Promote Transparency
WALL, NJ - Assemblyman Dave Rible today introduced legislation that will require the reporting of campaign contributions by candidates seeking election to a public office in a school district.
“The disclosures will promote transparency in school board elections by allowing the public to monitor campaign contributions collected by candidates,” said Rible. “Everyone running for any type of office should adhere to same standards of disclosure.”
The bill, A-2091, would require that candidate seeking election to a public office in a school district to disclose each expenditure made in any amount and each contribution of money received by the candidate.
“This legislation aims to keep voters informed by making all candidates’ campaign contributions public,” said Rible. “Hopefully this measure will help the voters to be more informed about candidates seeking elected office.”
Rible added that while state-wide and legislative campaigns are enforced by the state Election Law Enforcement Commission, there is no such mechanism for monitoring the financial activities of candidates.
